Hyderabad: A fresh development has taken place in the ongoing phone tapping case with Telangana police beginning the process of examining witnesses. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud has been summoned to appear as a witness on June 17, 2025, to record his statement in connection with the investigation.

The case pertains to allegations that phones of several individuals, including politicians, journalists, judges, businessmen, and film personalities, were illegally tapped during the previous BRS government’s tenure.

Police had earlier registered cases and arrested several accused, including SIB officials Praneeth Rao, Tirupatanna, Bhujangarao, and Kishan Rao. Except for former SIB chief Prabhakar Rao, who initially fled abroad and was later brought back to India, all other accused have been taken into custody and sent to jail. Prabhakar Rao, named as the key accused, has also appeared before police for questioning.

As part of the ongoing probe, police have now begun summoning witnesses. Mahesh Kumar Goud, who was TPCC working president during the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, is alleged to have been among those whose phones were tapped. He has been called to provide his deposition.

With the police simultaneously questioning the prime accused and starting the witness examination, the investigation in the phone tapping case has picked up pace, generating speculation over the next steps.
