Hyderabad: TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday called for unity among Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities to press for the inclusion of the BC Bill in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.
Speaking at the launch of the book ‘OBC Porubata’, Goud said OBC groups must set aside political differences and consolidate efforts for legal recognition of their rights.
He described the current moment as critical for backward class communities to assert their collective strength, citing the successful implementation of the caste survey in Telangana under the Congress government as a model for the country.
Goud credited the Congress for pushing the caste census agenda and noted that the BJP-led Centre, which had earlier opposed it, is now preparing to conduct a caste census alongside the general one.
He stated that the movement for the BC Bill must be framed as a unified fight for equity, rather than a fragmented caste-based effort.
The event was attended by BJP MP Eatala Rajender, BRS MLC Dasoju Shravan, and other BC leaders.
