Hyderabad: BJP leader and former MP B. Narsaiah on Saturday accused the Telangana government of delaying local body elections, claiming the inaction had stalled over ₹1500 crore in central funding.
Speaking at the BJP state office, Narsaiah said ₹1514 crore from the 15th Finance Commission remained unallocated due to the state’s failure to conduct the polls. He also pointed out that ₹800 crore from the 14th Finance Commission was still pending.
He asserted that the Centre had no role in scheduling local body elections and said the responsibility rested solely with the state government.
Narsaiah argued that the delay was damaging to the state and said the situation exposed the government’s administrative shortcomings.
He stated that while the state government holds the authority to determine the reservation percentage for these elections, it was the state election commission’s role to carry out the reservation process.
