HYDERABAD, February 9: Noted academic and human rights activist Professor G Haragopal has voiced concerns over the University Grants Commission (UGC) and its role in appointing vice-chancellors across universities. Speaking on the matter, he criticised the process, alleging a lack of transparency and increasing political interference.
Haragopal stated that the appointment of vice-chancellors should be based purely on merit and academic excellence rather than external influences. He expressed apprehensions that such interference could weaken the autonomy of universities and impact the quality of education.
The professor’s comments have sparked a discussion in academic and political circles, with some supporting his stance while others argue that the process follows established regulations. The issue remains a topic of debate as institutions continue to grapple with administrative challenges in higher education.
