Hyderabad: After months of relative calm, COVID-19 is once again on the rise across India. The Union Health Ministry has flagged a worrying increase in cases, with the country’s active caseload crossing the 2,000 mark.
In the last 24 hours alone, nearly 1,000 new infections were reported, sending the active cases from 1,828 to 2,710. Kerala remains the worst-hit state, logging 1,147 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 424, Delhi with 294, Gujarat with 223, and both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with 148 each. West Bengal recorded 116 cases.
In the Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh reported 16 new cases while Telangana saw just three.
Health officials noted that the week ending May 25 saw infections jump fivefold, crossing the 1,000-case mark.
Adding to the concern, the Health Ministry reported seven deaths linked to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours: two from Maharashtra and one each from Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay vigilant and follow COVID-19 safety measures to prevent further spread.
