Hyderabad: The centuries-old tradition of distributing fish prasadam to individuals suffering from asthma and respiratory ailments will return to the Nampally Exhibition Grounds on June 8, drawing thousands of hopeful beneficiaries from across the country.
Organised by the Bathini family in association with the Telangana government and various voluntary groups, the event is scheduled to begin at 10 AM on Sunday, June 8, coinciding with the Mrigasira Karthi observance. The prasadam will be distributed for 24 hours, until 10 AM on June 9.
At a press briefing on Wednesday, Bathini Amarnath Goud son of the late Harinath Goud along with family members Shivasankar Goud, Gouri Shankara Goud, Chandrashekar Goud, Santhosh Goud, and Shiva Goud, confirmed that all necessary arrangements are underway. “We’re working closely with multiple departments GHMC, Police, Water Works, RTC, Electricity, and Fisheries to ensure everything goes smoothly,” Amarnath said.
The Bathini family has been offering this free remedy for nearly 200 years, a unique blend of herbal paste inserted into a live fish, which patients then swallow. The offering is believed by many to provide relief from asthma, bronchitis, and chronic coughs.
Support services will be provided by organisations such as the Agarwal Seva Dal, who will distribute free food, water, coffee, tea, and buttermilk to attendees. Medical teams and volunteers will also be on site to manage crowd safety and assist those in need.
The family urged asthma sufferers to make the most of this annual opportunity, assuring that the tradition will be upheld with care and devotion, as it has been for generations.
