TALLAHASSEE: Gunfire once again echoed across the United States as a shooting incident rocked Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee. The attack claimed two lives and left six others injured.
According to reports, the assailant has been identified as Phoenix Ickner, a 20-year-old and the son of Leon County Sheriff’s Deputy Jessica Ickner. Authorities stated that he used his mother’s former service weapon to carry out the shooting. The injured victims were rushed to the hospital, and police have taken Ickner into custody.
Following reports of an active shooter near the Student Union building, the university immediately issued an alert urging students, faculty, and staff to evacuate the campus and seek shelter in safe locations. The shooting began at approximately 11:50 a.m. local time, and police responded swiftly, bringing the situation under control.
The campus was placed under lockdown in the aftermath, and all classes, sports events, and other scheduled activities for Thursday were cancelled.
Officials have briefed former President Donald Trump about the incident. Expressing deep sorrow, he described the shooting as a “horrific event.”
